Still without starting a starting career at Manchester United, Cavani stepped off the bench to show the impact he can bring to the team this Sunday. The Uruguayan forward scored two goals, gave an assist and ensured, in extra time, Manchester United’s comeback 3-2 against Southampton, away from home. The visitors opened two goals ahead of Bednarek and Ward-Prowse, with goofy moves by De Gea in both moves, and Bruno Fernandes dropped before Cavani decided.
In this way, United has three consecutive victories in the Premier League and is close to the G-4, after a bad start in the competition. Ole Günnar Solskjaer’s team is now in seventh place, with 16 points from nine games, two behind Leicester, fourth. Southampton is fifth, with 17.

Southampton opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, after a corner kick for Bednarek, who headed at the near post and was missed by goalkeeper De Gea, who missed the goal, to get in the net. Ten minutes later, Ward-Prowse widened the gap by failing precisely. De Gea reached for the ball, but couldn’t block it.
At half-time, coach Solskjaer decided to take Greenwood out to put Cavani on the field and had to take out De Gea, with a knee injury, to make way for Henderson. And the Uruguayan forward became United’s shift commander. At 13, he came from the right and crossed for Bruno Fernandes to dominate in the area and beat positioned to shorten distances.

Twenty minutes later, it was the Uruguayan’s turn to catch a ball from the Portuguese’s feet. Bruno Fernandes tried a shot from outside the area, which came out weak, but Cavani dived and crashed his head into the back of the net, leveling the game. And in minute 47, Rashford crossed the center left and found Cavani in the small area, who tested and secured United’s thrilling victory.
Cavani scored three goals in eight games for Manchester United after being signed at the end of the summer transfer window. The Uruguayan has started only once since joining the club, in a Champions League match, and is still waiting for the opportunity to start a Premier League match.
