Close to announcing Vagner Mancini as their new coach, Corinthians entered the relegation zone once and for all, losing 2-1 to Ceará, in Castelão, against matchday 15 of the Brazilian Championship. After taking the lead with Léo Natel, after Fernando Prass’s chicken, Gil, against, and Fernando Sobral, from a penalty, scored for the return of Vozão, who played with one less for half an hour. The penalty was committed by Cassio, after a mistake on the ball. He was sent off after the game ended.

The game was a direct confrontation between teams that fight against the stick and that had four games without winning. With the result, Ceará ends the sequence and reaches 18 points, in eleventh place. Corinthians, without winning in five games, still with 15, is 17th. Only Coritiba (13 points), Red Bull Bragantino (12) and Goiás (9) have worse seasons than Timão.

After probably saying goodbye under the command of Dyego Coelho, Corinthians will play again on Wednesday (14), against Atlético, at the Arena da Baixada. The expectation is that by then Mancini will have worked out the details to begin the job.

Coelho changes in his “farewell”

Minutes before the start of the game, UOL Esporte revealed that Corinthians had advanced conversations with Vagner Mancini, now Atlético-GO coach. In what could be his dismissal from Timão’s technical command, interim Dyego Coelho made an important change: He sent Jô to the reserve bench and moved up to the team without a center forward. Luan was chosen to play earlier, leaving room for the forward.

Prass takes chicken

Idol of archrival Palmeiras, Fernando Prass made a big mistake in the Corinthians goal. Léo Natel kicked hard from outside the area, Vozão’s shirt 1 tried to fit in, but ended up cushioning the ball, which slowly entered the goal. 42 year old goalkeeper jersey.

Gil equals with another failure

When Corinthians had less risk in the first half, Ceará reached the tie thanks to another failure, this one from Timão. After crossing Léo Chú into the area, Gil tried a deflection and sent it against his own goal, declaring a 1 to 1 in Castelão.

Eduardo is expelled and kicks the VAR cabin

A dangerous dispute over the ball on the baseline led to the expulsion of Eduardo, Ceará’s right-back, who had replaced Samuel Xavier, injured, in the first half. Protecting the ball, he threw his arm at Léo Natel, who complained of aggression. After the video referee’s analysis, Anderson Daronco decided to give the red card, disgust the home team. On the way to the locker room, Eduardo even kicked the VAR booth.

Cazares and Jô enter the muffle, without success

From the moment he was left with an extra player, Coelho decided to change the formation of Corinthians: he took the wheel from Gabriel to put in the attacking midfielder Cazares, and Mantuan to make way for Jô. The idea was to take advantage of the numerical superiority and put pressure on Ceará, but without much success. With Vozão betting on very specific counterattacks, the match was Timão’s attack against the defense of the hosts. Even Gil became a “second striker” to take advantage of his height. Still, it didn’t work.

Cássio executes a penalty and is sent off after the match

Unable to disturb Fernando Prass, Corinthians were suspended in the final minutes. The team tried to start playing from inside the area and Cássio missed the pass. In the sequence, the goalkeeper dropped Kelvyn to prevent the opponent from reaching the ball. Daronco scored the penalty, confirmed by the video, and Fernando Sobral, in extra time, scored the winning goal for Vozão, which only exacerbates Corinthians’ test. After the game, Cássio went to complain to Anderson Daronco and was sent off.
