Corinthians lost to América-MG 1-0 tonight (28), at Neo Química Arena. The match valid for the last 16 of the Copa do Brasil was marked by the lack of creativity of the teams and by the rare presentations. The goal of the miners came at the end, with Marcelo Toscano, after the wrong exit of Cássio.
The return match is scheduled for next Wednesday, in Belo Horizonte. América-MG need a draw to advance to the quarterfinals, while Corinthians have to win by two goals difference. Any victory on goal difference leads to the decision to penalties.
Corinthians returns to the field next Saturday (31), for Brasileirão. The match valid for matchday 19 will be against Inter, at Neo Química Arena, at 7pm. America-MG, meanwhile, will face Avaí on the 19th round of Serie B. The match will be away from home, also at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Game truncated
With no player in the attack benchmark, Corinthians opted for Everaldo’s speed on the left side. The game, however, flowed little through space, concentrated mainly in the midfield. America-MG, on the other hand, opted for a very compact team, with strong markings and quick attack. With little success in the strategies, the duel was cut short, with few arrivals to the area.
The exit is at the end
The rare moments of danger came when teams explored the side of the field in depth. First, Corinthians got a submission in the area, after a good play by Everaldo. Cazares finished over the goal. América-MG did not finish, but got scared after Ademir’s dribble at the end. Fagner, however, caught Felipe Azevedo’s shot.
Where is the 9?
Coach Vagner Mancini once again bet on a team without a center forward, even with Boselli on the bench. At times, Mateus Vital was Corinthians’ most advanced player. Without the midfielder in the area, the Alvinegra team missed a shot.
Pass bugs
The second half started with the same picture. And with an appendix: overspending errors on both sides, even when the ball is out of the defense field. The scenario irritated coaches Mancini and Lisca on the edge of the field. Energetic, the coaches yelled a lot at the players to correct the faults.
Mancini moves
The Corinthians coach made the first two changes at 18 minutes into the final stage. Leo Natel came in for Ramiro, while Boselli received one more chance. For that, Mancini took Ederson. Thus, the team began to have an area player, although the ball was little. Later, Vital replaced Cantillo, while Piton was replaced by Sidcley. Finally, Luan took to the field, in the Cazares wave.
Goal at the end
America’s winning goal came in the 43rd minute of the second half, after a poor start by Cássio. Neto Berola recovered the ball and took out Marcelo Toscano, who had just entered. The striker concluded with an effort, stretching, and opened the scoring to finish on top, with no chance for the Corinthians goalkeeper.
