The building where the Casarão dos Manufacturers is located, in downtown Fortaleza, is in danger of collapse, according to the Fire Department, due to the fire that has affected the place since Saturday night (5).
In addition, the ground floor has already been consumed by flames, forming a kind of abyss for the basement, as explained by Colonel Cleiton Bezerra, Deputy Commander General of the Fire Department:

The Casarão dos Manufacturers is one of the oldest buildings in Fortaleza that is still preserved, whose construction was in the first half of the 19th century. The Central Avenue Palace, as it was initially known, is in the process of provisional cataloging, according to the Ceará Yearbook.
Risk for the central market
Also according to Colonel Cleiton Bezerra, the proximity of the Casarão dos Manufacturers with the Central Market carries the risk that the flames will also spread to the other shopping center, one of the main tourist spots in the capital of Ceará.
“The flames were quite intense and our main concern was the Central Market and a gas plant that is nearby. So we concentrated the first teams that arrived at the place to prevent these flames from passing to the Central Market. Unfortunately, the Casarão dos Manufacturers they are already totally taken by the flames, it is a total loss ”, he says.
Fire start
The House of Manufacturers, in the center of Fortaleza, passes through a big fire Saturday night (5). The location is on Avenida Alberto Nepomuceno with Rua Rufino de Alencar, between the Metropolitan Cathedral of the city and the Central Market.
Teams from the Ceará Fire Department are working on site to control the flames. The House of Manufacturers is made up of several kiosks for the sale of clothes. The videos show the compound engulfed in fire and several officers working to combat the flames.
A team from the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) is also on site. None was injured. According to firefighters, at the time Casarão started to catch fire, there was only one vendor at the scene, but he managed to get out without hurting himself.
So far, firefighters have used about 10,000 liters of water to fight the flames.
