Casagrande criticizes Santos for hiring Robinho: “Violence against society’s morals” | Saints

Last week Santos hired striker Robinho, who was sentenced in the first instance in Italy to nine years in prison for sexual violence – the case is on appeal – and has been the target of criticism. This Tuesday, Casagrande opposed the player’s return to the club.

During the Balloon Esporte SP, the commentator praised Robinho as a player, but criticized the signing due to the ongoing investigation in Italy.

– I feel desolate and lose hope a bit. At a time when the world and especially Brazil wants to reorganize itself in morals and ethics, this is a lack of respect not only for women, but it is a violence to the morals of society. I did not understand the reason for the hiring, it does not make sense. Robinho is a great player and personally I have nothing against him; He even gave him a T-shirt that I gave to my son from Santos. He’s officially convicted of rape, a heinous crime, so my heart aches. I am on the side of morals, ethics and values - Casagrande said.

Also on Tuesday, Robinho’s lawyers released an official note explaining the details of the case. The defense claims that the player should be considered a “free man” until all resources are exhausted.

– According to the Italian Constitutional Order, Robinho must be considered innocent, based on article 27 of the Constitutional Charter of the Italian Republic, according to which the accused is not found guilty until the final sentence (and this only if the conviction is confirmed by the Supreme Court of Cassation, which judges after the Court of Appeal) – says the note.

In an interview with CBN radio last Saturday, jurist Walter Maierovitch said that the attacker, who is still awaiting trial for an appeal, cannot be found guilty:

– Actually, there is a civilizing principle, adopted even by our Constitution, which is the presumption of innocence. We cannot forget that. Robinho was sentenced in the first degree. In Italy, it is a university, a court, it is not just a judge. It has popular participation. He was convicted, but it is not a final conviction. He appealed and the right to appeal was recognized in freedom. This is on appeal. Therefore, I believe that we cannot exclude and ignore this presumption of not guilt.
