Through Twitter, Frenchman Alexandre Bompard described the images of the murder of João Alberto Silveira Freitas as “unbearable”
Early Friday evening (20), the president of the Carrefour Group, Alexandre Bompard, spoke on his Twitter account about the murder of João Alberto Silveira Freitas, known as Beto Freitas in a retail store in Porto Alegre (LOL). The Frenchman called for a review of the training of employees and third parties, “with regard to safety, respect for diversity and the values of respect and rejection of intolerance.”
Freitas was beaten to death by two security guards in a supermarket in the Passo d’Areia neighborhood, north of Porto Alegre. The videos showing the beating in front of the store and the rescuers’ attempt to save the man, known as Beto, have been circulating on social networks since Thursday night (19) and provoking mobilizations against racism, which provoked protests in Carrefour stores on this Friday, Black Awareness Day.
The Carrefour Brasil Group announced that it will break the contract with the company responsible for security, in addition to firing the employee responsible for the store at the time of the incident.
Bompard said these measures are insufficient. “My values and Carrefour’s do not tolerate racism and violence,” he tweeted. On the social network, the executive described the images of the murder as “unbearable.”
“I asked the Carrefour Brasil Group teams to cooperate fully with the Justice and the authorities so that the facts of this horrible event are made known.”
The president also said that he expects Carrefour Brasil to commit to a complete review of the training actions for employees and third parties, which will have a defined action plan with the support of external companies to guarantee the independence of this work.
