Four people died last night, after the accident of the vehicle where they fell in the Guanabara Bay, in the Port Region of Rio de Janeiro. The accident occurred after the driver lost control of the car, on Avenida Rodrigues Alves, near warehouse 11. It was raining heavily in the city.
A fifth person who was also in the vehicle survived because he managed to get out of the vehicle before it sank. According to firefighters, she was not injured, did not need assistance and was released from the scene.
The vehicle that fell into Guanabara Bay was carrying employees of a maritime services company that operates in the region.
The Fire Department was activated at 9:20 pm. According to the corporation, the car was found by the dive team, almost two hours later, at 11:15 pm. At around 12:40 a.m., the last victim was pulled out of the car.
Denilson Cruz, 53, Luiz O. Silva, 40, Paulo Almeida, 34, and Rogério R. Sacramento, 48, were referred to the IML (Medical Legal Institute).
Wanted, the Brazilian Navy said it learned of the accident and that through the 1st Naval District, it deployed a Search and Rescue team to the site.
“The team followed the activities of the Fire Department divers who carried out the search and rescue of the people who were inside the vehicle, guaranteeing the safety of navigation around the accident site,” he said in a note.
