Domingos Barbosa Cabral, 57, was shot and killed Saturday night in the Cabuçu neighborhood of Nova Iguaçu. The Affiliate Democrats (DEM) is the second candidate for councilor assassinated in the municipality of Baixada in less than 15 days.
The candidate for councilor was shot several times, by men wearing ninja caps, around 6:30 p.m. yesterday, while he was in a bar. Domingão, as he was known in the region, was even referred to the Cabuçu UPA, but he did not resist the injuries.
Police from the 20 BPM (Mesquita) were summoned to accompany the victim. The Baixada Fluminense Homicide Division took over the investigation of the case.
Domingos, who would be running in the 2020 municipal elections for Democrats, had already won an alternate seat on the city council in 2016 by PHS (Humanist Solidarity Party). In July this year, the politician was arrested on the spot in an operation to suppress the action of militiamen in the region.
On that occasion, Domingos was found with a 9mm pistol and a magazine. Two other people were arrested in the action, including a 39th BPM military police officer (Belford Roxo).
In the certificates presented by the candidate for Electoral Justice, he also appears as involved in an extortion process, for which there is still no sentence. In his declaration of assets, he mentioned having a total of R $ 40 thousand, including a Chevrolet, Cruzer model, year 2012.
The Civil Police reported, through its press office, that investigations are being carried out to find out the circumstances of the death of Domingos Barbosa Cabral. “A diligence is being carried out to identify the perpetrator of the crime,” the note says.

On October 1, Mauro Miranda da Rocha, 41, also a candidate for councilor in Nova Iguaçu, for the Christian Labor Party (PTC), was shot dead in the Rancho Fundo neighborhood. The politician was shot in the head, arm and chest. He was even rescued, but he could not resist his injuries and died upon arrival at the Nova Iguaçu General Hospital.
The main target of the criminals’ shooting, the politician had already been arrested for illegal possession of a weapon of a permitted caliber. On October 7, 2015, he had the Honda Civic he was driving, intercepted by policemen, on the Estrada de Adrianópolis, in Bairro Corumbá, in Nova Iguaçu. When searching the vehicle, the police found a pistol under the passenger seat.
