In Campinas (State of São Paulo) the Civil Police are investigating the case of a woman (58 years old) who took a dead old man (92 years old) to a Banco do Brasil branch in an attempt to withdraw his benefit. The case occurred on October 2, and of course the plan went awry.
The woman tried to enter the bank with the corpse in a wheelchair. When he got to the agency he tried to get them to respond quickly saying that he felt bad, they called the fire department and Samu.
Upon arriving at the scene, the rescuers identified that the old man had no vital signs, but one of them realized that there was something strange: the old man seemed to have been dead for a long time, due to the cadaverous state in which he was and swelling of your feet. The Civil Police were called and the woman assumed the charade.
Before taking the blame, the woman reported that she was living with an elderly man (a retired police employee) about 10 years ago and was unemployed. And that morning he took his partner to the bank because she was the one who handled his accounts, however, he claimed to have lost the letter of letters from his partner, with which he would receive his withdrawal.
Despite the allegations, the woman did not present any power of attorney authorizing her to handle the old man’s accounts. Asked about the last time she spoke to him, the woman replied that it had been a few hours before reaching the bank, but at another point she ended up contradicting herself and claimed to have spoken with her partner the last time the night before.
The police opened an investigation and the report noted that the old man died about 12 hours before the woman took his body to the bank and that the cause of death was natural. The woman was accused of fraud and defamation of the corpse [desprezar ou humilhar corpo].
Banco do Brasil said in a note that it uses resources such as customer identification, the use of passwords, as well as cards and biometrics to “mitigate the risk of fraud in the payment of social security benefits.”
BB also clarifies that it has complied with all the protocols in the case of a fact registered in one of its branches in Campinas, which includes the presentation of a power of attorney or the presence of the beneficiary in the agency ”.
