This Saturday (30), Brazil had, for the second day in a row, the highest moving average of deaths from covid-19 in six months. In the last seven days, there have been 1,071 deaths, on average, caused by the disease nationwide, according to the media consortium of which UOL is a part.

It’s the highest mark since July 26, when the average was 1,074 deaths. Today is the tenth consecutive day that the country has a moving average of deaths from covid-19 higher than a thousand. The last time there was such a long streak was between July 3 and August 2 (31 days). In this period, the record of 1,097 deaths was calculated on average, registered on July 25.

For the fifth consecutive day, Brazil registered more than a thousand new deaths caused by covid-19. According to figures from the consortium, 1,196 new deaths from yesterday to today, bringing the total number of deaths to 223,971 since the start of the pandemic. Ceará did not report the update on the number of new cases and deaths today.

In the last 24 hours, Brazil presented 55,717 positive tests for covid-19, increasing to 9,175,194 the total number of infected since the beginning of the pandemic.

Brazil today surpassed the mark of 2 million vaccinated against covid-19. In total, 2,002,455 people have already been vaccinated, according to data from the health departments of 25 states and the Federal District. However, only 12 states reported updates to this data on Saturday (30).

Experts indicate the calculation of the moving average

To measure the situation of deaths from covid-19, experts indicate using the moving average of deaths, which calculates the average of records observed in the last seven days. The operation is the most suitable to observe the trend of the statistics, since it balances the abrupt variations of the numbers throughout the week.

The media consortium adopted this period to verify fluctuations in the moving average. We can speak of a drop in figures when the decrease is greater than 15% if it is verified in the last 14 days, in this case, the period of the last two weeks. If the numbers rise more than 15%, the epidemic accelerates. Intermediate values indicate stability.

The government decrees the closure in the PA region

The governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho (MDB), announced today that the Baixo Amazonas and Calha Norte region will enter into lockdown due to the identification of two cases of the Amazon variant of the new coronavirus in the city of Santarém (PA).

The measure will be valid from midnight on Monday (1st). The region borders the Amazon, which faced a collapse in the health system due to the increase in COVID-19 cases in the last week. The new variant, which was first identified in Manaus and became prevalent in the state, is said to be responsible for the explosion of the disease due to increased potential for transmissibility.
