By promising vaccine, Minister of Health confirms that he does not understand health – Chico Alves

It is nothing new to anyone that the Minister of Health does not understand the industry. General Eduardo Pazuello’s specialty is logistics. His curriculum moves away from the notions of edidemiology and infectious diseases, specialties so useful in the fight against the coronavirus. Other ministers were not from the area either – like José Serra, for example – but they surrounded themselves with the best scientists and researchers. General Pazuello brought military personnel like him.

The rest is history.

Since the general arrived, the Ministry of Health authorized the use of chloroquine in the treatment of covid-19, tried to hide the number of deaths in the pandemic to make it difficult to broadcast on TV Globo, denied help to the states to buy sedatives necessary for intubation, distributed fewer respirators than promised, spent less money than he had, promoted a meeting with advocates of the application of ozone by anal route against the coronavirus … and so on.

If we add this disorderly relationship to the fact that the federal government has no plan to combat covid-19 and is commanded by a president who has sabotaged social distance from the beginning, then we have the reasons that explain the more than 127 thousand deaths. . in the country.

In this bleak scenario, Pazuello at great cost represented an important success: he signed an agreement with the University of Oxford for the development and production of the vaccine in Brazil.

But since he is not in business, even when he is doing it well, the general minister finds a way to make mistakes. In an interview yesterday, he made a prediction that no health specialist would make. When asked when Brazilians would have access to the coronavirus vaccine, Pazuello threw it out, full of conviction: “In January next year, we will start vaccinating everyone.”

The punishment for lack of prudence did not last long.

A few hours after the minister’s forecast, the pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca reported that the vaccine tests were suspended because one of the volunteers had an unexpected adverse reaction.

Thus, the day that Pazuello imagined ending in a climate of optimism and hope came to an end under the sign of disappointment and tension, something that the financial markets around the world immediately reflected.

The general minister is expected to have learned his lesson. The drug development processes are detailed and careful, very different from the irresponsible reasoning of those who defend chloroquine, ivermectin and anal ozone.

Despite this, Pazuello does not have to despair. As for the ball out, there are those in the government who surpass it a lot. This is the case of Jair Bolsonaro, the president who, instead of encouraging future vaccinations, already anticipates telling his governors that no one is obliged to be vaccinated.

Console yourself minister, the president is unbeatable.
