Other Russian media confirmed the murder of Alexander, described as “authoritarian” by the website 47news, one of the first to announce the death. According to the post, Vitaly’s father was in his sauna at home and then went swimming in a river. There was a sniper there.
The leadership of the Leningrad Region Investigation Committee and the Criminal Investigation Department are working on the site. A large number of forensic investigators left Saint Petersburg to work on the case.
Vitaly Petrov, the son, returned to Formula 1 this weekend as one of the stewards of the Portuguese GP. His presence was also a source of criticism from the pilots. Lewis Hamilton questioned the choice after a series of biased comments from the Russian.
Alexander was a municipal deputy in Vyborg for the United Russia party, as he was for President Vladimir Putin, and the owner of a network of companies, including the Vyborg Shipyard, the Vyborg Fuel Company, for fuels.
The FIA issued a statement saying that Petrov “will not continue with his activities for the rest of the weekend” for “personal reasons” and that Bruno Correia, Formula E safety driver, will be his replacement.

Hamilton shines, wins close dispute with Bottas and is pole in Portugal
Ingenious and brilliant, Lewis Hamilton made an incredible final lap that took him to pole 97 of his Formula One career. Proven again because he is one of the greatest of all time. With a second attempt to return on medium tires, the Briton clocked 1min16s652 and took the lead Valtteri Bottas for only 0s102 and secured the position of honor on the Portuguese grid this Sunday.
Hamilton’s fantastic journey was crowned by a Bottas who, all weekend until then, had dominated the play in Portugal. However, in the end, he earned the star of the six-time champion, who recorded another great moment in his award-winning career.
Max Verstappen has also had a great career this Saturday in Portugal. The Dutchman even emerged with a chance to start from pole, but was ultimately overtaken by Hamilton and Bottas. The Dutchman will start in third position, the usual one due to the conditions that the Red Bull offers it right now.
Also highlight for Charles Leclerc, with a great fourth place with Ferrari. The Monegasque managed to beat Sergio Pérez’s Racing Point, while Alexander Albon will start sixth with the other Red Bull. Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris will form a full fourth row for McLaren, while Pierre Gasly of AlphaTauri and Daniel Ricciardo of Renault closes the top 10 of the Portuguese grid.
