A public transport bus was set on fire this Monday afternoon (23), on the Maria Peregrina bridge, in the north of São José dos Campos (SP), in protest at an action by the military police at the site.

According to the Military Police, after an attempt to approach, a man jumped into the Paraíba River in flight. The Fire Department was on site to get him out of the river and, on the shore, people gathered to attack PM and firefighters.

According to the Ministry of Public Security (SSP), the neighbors began to throw stones, pieces and wood at the equipment.

Then, according to the prime minister, the inhabitants of the poor neighborhood of Rodhia intercepted the María Peregrina bridge and set the bus on fire. The Fire Department was called in to contain the fire in the bus, but when the team arrived at the scene the vehicle had already been consumed by flames. No one was hurt.

Videos that went viral on social media show a group being dispersed by police under the bridge, where the bus was burned after a riot.

The urban mobility secretariat reported that traffic officers were called and acted on site. In a note, Viação Saens Peña lamented the attack on the bus. The Military Police reported that a man was arrested with drugs and taken to the police station.
