A fire reached the 17th floor of a building on Avenida Abolição, at the corner of Rua Júlio Ibiapina, in the Meireles neighborhood, in Fortaleza, this Friday afternoon (30). No one was hurt.

At least three vehicles from the Ceará Fire Department could be seen at the scene controlling the fire. Strong black smoke could be seen spreading across the site. According to a local employee, the fire started after a washing machine caught fire in one of the apartments.

According to firefighter Eduardo Tabosa, residents of the department reported that they left the washing machine on and that the fire could have been caused after a short circuit in the electrical outlet. The firefighter, however, says that the causes of the fire can only be indicated when conducting an inspection of the apartment.

“Some people reported that it could be the machine that was on. And according to information from one of the residents of the apartment, it could be the machine that was on and had a short circuit in the outlet. But you’re not sure. firefighters now do an inspection after everything has stopped, all the fire has stopped. And now it has stopped and there is only smoke. Now they are going to start inspecting all the material. The whole apartment has been burned, “says the firefighter.
