Brazil should not be vaccinated before February, says Fiocruz researcher

Although several countries around the world are already getting vaccinated against Covid-19, Brazil should not be on this list anytime soon. The evaluation is from Margareth Dalcomo, a researcher at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), in an interview with CNN this Friday (25).

For Margareth, Brazil did not negotiate at the right time, when other countries were already in talks with vaccine manufacturers.

“Anvisa can only register a product that is registered in its country of origin and neither of the two advanced ones in Brazil, which are Sinovac and AstraZeneca, has it,” he says. “So they couldn’t be used to vaccinate the Brazilian population,” he explains.

According to her, six months ago, which was the time when phase 3 studies began, a more harmonious and centralized coordination of the federal government was needed, but with the consent and collaboration of the academic community.

“This did not happen in a realistic way, the impression we have is that before February no one should be vaccinated in Brazil,” he predicts.

As a result, the contagion in Brazil may take longer to stop, the researcher analyzes.
