Data from the Ministry of Health this Wednesday (13) show that Brazil registered 749 new deaths due to Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. In total, there are 13,149 confirmed deaths from the disease.

The country also registered 11,385 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Brazil and has a total of 188,974 cases.

The state of São Paulo has the highest number of cases in the country (51,097). Ceará overtook Rio de Janeiro this Wednesday (13), with 19,156 cases in total, and is second on the list. In Rio, there are 18,728.

In recent days, the daily average of deaths in the country has increased. The record is 881 deaths recorded in just one day, on Tuesday (12). On Friday (8), there were 751 new deaths from Covid-19 and, on Saturday (9), 730 new deaths.

The representatives of the Ministry of Health attribute the situation both to a greater transmission of the disease and to a reduction in the number of tests that are repressed.

The official number of deaths grows more in Brazil than in Europe. In Brazil, this increase was 6.5% per day on Friday (8), for example. On an equivalent day of the epidemic in Italy, it grew to 3.1%. Two weeks ago, the rhythms of the two countries were similar.

On May 8, the pace was 2.5% in France. In the UK, 3%. In the United States, 8.2%. In the state of São Paulo, 4.6%.

However, for specialists, the actual number of cases should be even higher, as not all patients undergo testing and the number of cases is still pending on test results.

The country currently has 2,050 deaths under investigation. The updated total of cases under analysis was not disclosed.

Of the total number of patients with a confirmed diagnosis, 97,402 are being followed, equivalent to 51.4% of the total. Another 78,424, or 41.5%, were recovered, and 13,149 died.

With 27% of confirmed cases in the country, São Paulo also has the highest number of deaths: 4,118. The decline in adherence to isolation has raised concerns among state officials. Then there are Rio de Janeiro, with 2,050 deaths already confirmed, and Ceará, with 1,389.

When the incidence is observed, an indicator that shows the total number of cases in the population, the worst situation is in Amazonas, with 381.6 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. By way of comparison, the average in the country is 89.9 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

The Health Ministry did not comment on the new figures released on Wednesday. Previously, the ministry canceled a press conference scheduled to announce guidelines for states and municipalities to adopt different levels of social distance.

The move, which represents a defeat for the current minister, Nelson Teich, comes after a confrontation with state and municipal health secretaries.

The group argues that building a guideline that could lead to relaxation of isolation in some places is “inappropriate.” In a note, Conass (National Council of State Health Secretaries) says that the measure should only occur when there is a reduction in cases and deaths in the country, which is not the current situation.
