The Ministry of Health announced today that there are 199,768 health professionals in Brazil suspected of being infected with the new coronavirus. Most of the suspected cases (68,250 of the records, or 34.2% of the total) are nursing assistants or technicians.

Of the total of suspected cases, 31,790 (15.9%) have already been confirmed as covid-19. However, the folder did not provide details on the professions of the infected. The state of São Paulo concentrates the majority of diagnoses, with 14,831 health professionals with confirmation of covid-19. Behind, follow Rio de Janeiro (4,451), Ceará (1,668), Amazonas (1,257) and Bahía (1,174).

Another 53,677 cases (26.9% of the total) have already been discarded. The Ministry also added that 114,301 cases (equivalent to 57.2%) are still under investigation.

According to the Undersecretary of Health Surveillance, Eduardo Macário, the suspected cases include all professionals who were dismissed for presenting fever, sore throat and cough, regardless of whether it is the new coronavirus.

“This professional has to be removed preventively and the test must be done precisely to identify if he is infected with the coronavirus or not. In this process, we identified 199 thousand professionals who were notified within the system. They may have a little more, but this is the real number we have, “Macário said during a press conference given by the ministry.
