This Friday (5), the Ministry of Health reported that Brazil registered 1,800 new deaths caused by covid-19 in the last 24 hours. Since the beginning of the pandemic, there have been a total of 262,770 deaths from the disease across the country.

According to federal government figures, this is the second deadliest day of the entire pandemic. The record was set last Wednesday (3), with 1,910 victims.

From yesterday to today, 75,495 positive tests for covid-19 were counted across the country, bringing the total number of infected people to 10,869,227 since the start of the pandemic.

According to the folder, 9,671,410 people recovered from the disease, while another 935,047 remain under follow-up.

Every 2 minutes, 3 people are hospitalized with covid in SP, says the secretary

The Secretary of Health of the State of São Paulo, Jean Gorinchteyn, issued another warning about the critical situation of the new coronavirus pandemic in São Paulo. According to the infectologist, every two minutes, three people enter wards and ICUs (intensive care units) with the disease in the state.

Since Monday of last week (22), São Paulo has an average of more than 100 new patients admitted to the ICU per day in public and private health units. In 11 days, the state went from 6,410 hospitalized in intensive care units to 7,892 this Friday.

“We have an increase in the number of occupations, but let’s save this information: every two minutes, three patients in the state are admitted to the ICU or infirmary. Occupations occur on average with 130 new admissions per day, so we need measures implemented at 12:00 am today, “said the secretary, recalling the red phase of the São Paulo Plan that begins at midnight throughout the state.

For Gorinchteyn, São Paulo is experiencing a state of “war” against the virus. Last Tuesday, São Paulo set a new record for daily deaths, with 468 deaths recorded in 24 hours. The following day, Governor João Doria (PSDB) announced restrictive measures.

Vehicles gather for information

In response to the decision of the government of Jair Bolsonaro to restrict access to data on the covid-19 pandemic, media Twitter, El Estado de S. Paulo, Folha de S.Paulo, O Globo, G1 and Extra formed a consortium to work collaboratively to seek the necessary information directly from the state health departments of the 27 units of the Federation.

The federal government, through the Ministry of Health, should be the natural source of these figures, but the attitudes of the authorities and the president himself during the pandemic cast doubt on the availability of the data and its veracity.
