This Saturday (9) Brazil reached 155,939 confirmed cases and 10,627 deaths in the new coronavirus pandemic (Sars-CoV-2).
According to the balance of the Ministry of Health, 10,611 new infections and 730 deaths were registered in just 24 hours.
This week, Brazil confirmed 59,380 more cases, a higher number than almost all the countries registered during the entire pandemic, with the exception of the United States, Spain, Italy, the United Kingdom, Russia, France, Germany, Turkey, Iran, China, Canada, Peru and India.
In absolute terms, São Paulo remains the leading state in total cases, with 44,411, ahead of Rio de Janeiro, with 16,929, and Ceará, with 15,879.
In relative numbers, Amapá appears in the leadership, with 2,948 infections per million inhabitants, followed by Amazonas (2,877 / 1 million inhabitants) and Roraima (1,984 / 1 million inhabitants). São Paulo is also the state with the highest number of deaths in absolute terms (3,608), while Amazonas is the leader in proportional figures (232/1 million inhabitants).
Both the National Congress and the Federal Supreme Court (STF) declared three days of national mourning for the victims of the new coronavirus on Saturday. However, President Jair Bolsonaro has not yet joined the tribute and, despite having given up having a barbecue at the Palácio da Alvorada, he went out for a boat ride on Lake Paranoá.
