With 204 deaths from covid-19 registered in the last 24 hours, Brazil registered another day of decrease in the moving average of deaths on Tuesday (10): -24% compared to 14 days ago. The data come from the consortium of press media from which Twitter It is part of.

However, three states have not released their full figures today: São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro. Since last week, the country has had problems with the disclosure of covid-19 data due to errors in the e-SUS platform. The reports started after the Health Ministry system was hacked.

In a statement released yesterday, the agency stated that “it is still in the process of stabilizing the network.”

In total, the country already registers 162,842 deaths from the disease. 25,517 new cases of the disease were registered from yesterday to today throughout the country. Since the start of the pandemic, 5.7 million positive diagnoses for the new coronavirus have been confirmed in Brazil.

Health data

The Ministry of Health reported that it registered 201 new deaths from covid-19 from yesterday to today in Brazil. The total number of deaths from the disease reached 162,829 since the start of the pandemic.

In the last 24 hours, according to the folder, the country added 25,012 new cases of the disease, bringing the total of positive diagnoses to 5,700,044.

Five accelerated states

Among the regions, the South was the only one that increased again (25%). The Midwest (-34%), the North (-23%) and the Southeast (-42%) had a drop in the variation of the moving average of deaths. The Northeast remained stable (-6%).

Five states experienced acceleration (that is, an increase in the variation): Amapá (which had not published data in the previous days, due to the blackout that affects the state), Pernambuco, Paraná, Rio Grande do Norte and Santa Catarina. Twelve declined and six states and the Federal District maintained stability.

To measure the situation of deaths from covid-19, experts indicate that they use the moving average of deaths, which calculates the average of records observed in the last seven days. The operation is the most suitable to observe the trend of the statistics, since it balances the abrupt variations of the numbers throughout the week.

The media consortium adopted this period to check for fluctuations in the moving average. We can speak of a drop in figures when the drop is greater than 15% if it is verified in the last 14 days, in this case the period of the last two weeks. If the numbers rise more than 15%, the epidemic accelerates. Intermediate values indicate stability.

Vehicles gather for information

In response to the decision of the government of Jair Bolsonaro to restrict access to data on the covid-19 pandemic, media Twitter, El Estado de S. Paulo, Folha de S.Paulo, O Globo, G1 and Extra formed a consortium to work collaboratively to seek the necessary information directly from the state health departments of the 27 units of the Federation.

The federal government, through the Ministry of Health, should be the natural source of these figures, but the attitudes of the authorities and the president himself during the pandemic cast doubt on the availability of the data and its veracity.
