The director general of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, reinforced on Monday (30) that Brazil must take seriously the increase in the number of Covid-19 cases.
“Brazil had its peak in July. The number of cases was declining, but in November the numbers rose again. Brazil must take these numbers very, very seriously. It’s very, very disturbingTedros said.
Last week, data from Imperial College London indicated that the transmission rate of the new coronavirus was the highest since May. The index was 1.30: every 100 infected people transmit the virus to another 130 people.
The last time the transmission rate in Brazil was so high was in the week of May 24, when it reached 1.31, according to data collected by the G1. The maximum possible value on that date, considering the margin of error, was 1.34.
“We need to control the cases and keep the numbers low. Countries must attack the cases that reappear so they do not spread. This is the recommendation for all countries. Once it reduces the number of cases, it must keep that number low, “added the entity’s technical leader, Maria van Kerkhove.
According to a survey by the consortium of press vehicles, Brazil had 172,866 confirmed deaths from coronavirus as of 1:00 p.m. on Monday (30) and more than 6.3 million cases.

SARS cases grow back
A Fiocruz survey noted, for the first time since July, an upward trend for the entire country in cases of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), according to the latest update of the weekly monitoring bulletin Infogripe, on November 24.
The increasing trends in the cases had already been indicated by Fiocruz for several weeks in a growing number of capitals, but this is the first time that this increase has been reported for the entire Brazilian territory.
The last time a growth trend was indicated was in the week of June 28 to July 4.
