Brazil fell five places in the Human Development Index ranking in 2019, compared to the previous year, although its performance has improved slightly.
The result is contained in the Human Development Report of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), published on Tuesday (15).
Considering the 189 countries analyzed, Brazilians now appear in position 84, instead of 79, which they occupied in 2018 after losing one position in the ranking. This despite the fact that the index rose from 0.762 to 0.765.
The result, however, keeps Brazil in the group of countries with high human development.
- Brazil has the second highest concentration of income in the world, according to UN report
- In position 79, Brazil is located in the ranking of human development of the UN
But there is no reason for great optimism when compared to neighboring countries. The Brazilian average is lower than that of Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Peru and Colombia, surpassing only that of Paraguay and Bolivia.
- Chile (43) – 0.851
- Argentina (46) – 0.845
- Uruguay (55) – 0.817
- Peru (79) – 0.777
- Colombia (83) – 0.767
- Brazil (84) – 0.765
- Paraguay (103) – 0.728
- Bolivia (107) – 0.718
Compared to other Brics, a group of emerging countries of which it is a part, Brazil loses to Russia, but appears ahead of China, South Africa and India.
The three countries that lead the Human Development ranking are European: first, Norway, with Ireland and Switzerland tied for second.
The three lowest indices were obtained by African countries: Chad, Central African Republic and Niger.
