Brazil has once again broken the mark of its worst pandemic day so far, with 3,600 Covid deaths recorded in 24 hours. With that, the country now adds 307,326 deaths since the start of the pandemic. The moving average of deaths in the country in the last 7 days was reached 2,400, hitting again record in the index. Compared to the 14-day average, the variation was + 32%, indicating upward trend in deaths from the disease.

This is what a new survey by the media consortium on the situation of the coronavirus pandemic in Brazil shows, based on data from state health departments, consolidated at 8:00 pm on Friday.

Some states have linked their high numbers for the day directly to a dam caused by change that the Ministry imposed and revoked in the middle of the week. São Paulo, the state with the highest records, said that the change affected the data of Wednesday (24) until now, even after the suspension, and that is why the state had a record number of deaths this Friday.

The Health Departments of Goiás, Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina reported experiencing delays and data confiscation throughout the week. In Bahia, those responsible said that the accumulation was related to the overload of the equipment and the deepening of epidemiological investigations to avoid distortions.

With this Friday’s record, the Brazil becomes second among the countries that had the most deaths registered in a single day, surpassed only by the United States, which has already reached the 4,000 daily death mark at its worst. Before, Argentina occupied the 2nd position, with 3,351 deaths registered on October 1, 2020, according to the Our World in Data portal.

It is already 65 days in a row with the moving average of deaths above the 1000 mark; for the nineteenth day the mark appears above 1.5 thousand; and the country is now 10 days old with this average above 2,000 deaths per day.
