RIO – Brazil reached 179 thousand deaths from Covid-19 this Wednesday, reports the 8 pm bulletin of the consortium of press vehicles. In the last 24 hours, 848 deaths were registered, totaling 179,032 lives lost by the new coronavirus. 54,203 new cases of the disease were also reported, bringing the number of Sars-CoV-2 infected to 6,730,118.

The “7-day moving average” averages between the number of deaths for the day and the previous six. It is compared to an average of two weeks ago to indicate whether there is an uptrend, stability or a downtrend. The calculation is a statistical resource to be able to see the trend of the data, drowning out the “noise” caused on weekends, when the notification of deaths is reduced due to the shortage of shift employees.
There are 22 federative units with an upward trend in the moving average of deaths from Covid-19: Acre, Amapá, Bahía, Ceará, Distrito Federal, Espírito Santo, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Paraíba, Paraná, Pernambuco, Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte, Rio Grande do Sul, Rondônia, Roraima, Santa Catarina, São Paulo, Sergipe and Tocantins.

Alagoas, Pará and Rio de Janeiro show stability. Amazonas and Maranhão are the only states that show a drop in the moving average of deaths from coronavirus.
The data is from the consortium formed by O GLOBO, Extra, G1, Folha de S.Paulo, UOL and O Estado de S. Paulo and compiles information from the state health departments disseminated daily until 8 pm. The media initiative was created from inconsistencies in the data presented by the Ministry of Health.
President Jair Bolsonaro said Wednesday that the government “behaved very well” during the new coronavirus pandemic. The statement was given during a lunch with general officers of the Armed Forces, at the Air Force Club.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the president has downplayed the impacts of the disease. He criticized social isolation measures, advised by the World Health Organization and health authorities, and advocated vertical isolation, only for people at risk. In addition, he suggested the use of drugs that have no scientific evidence against Covid-19 to treat the disease.
Pazuello changes his tone and says that vaccination against Covid-19 can begin in December
The Minister of Health, Eduardo Pazuello, said on Wednesday (9) that vaccination against Covid-19 could begin in December or January. In an interview with CNN Brazil, Pazuello stated that first it will be necessary to close the government contract with Pfizer, which is still in negotiation, then the pharmaceutical company needs to obtain the registration for emergency use and still be able to advance in the delivery of its candidate vaccine against the new coronavirus. According to him, 500,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine will be delivered in January.

Speaking on Tuesday, the minister had already said that the forecast was that the first doses of the Pfizer vaccine would arrive in Brazil in January. In the draft presented last week, the campaign would begin in March with specific groups.
In the late afternoon, the Ministry of Health issued a note in which it said that “the vaccination plan against Covid-19 will soon be presented to Brazilians.” In the same statement, the folder presents a slide that confirms the exclusion of persons deprived of liberty from priority groups for vaccination, according to the GLOBO columnist Lauro Jardim.
