Brazil registered 513 new deaths from covid-19 in the last 24 hours, according to data released today by the Ministry of Health, and the total number of deaths reached 158,969 since the start of the pandemic.

26,106 new cases of the disease were registered from yesterday to today, bringing the total of positive diagnoses to 5,494,376.

Also according to the federal government, 4,954,159 people recovered from covid-19, with another 381,248 being followed.

Ministry announces R $ 1.5 billion to face pandemic

The Ministry of Health said on Thursday (29) that it will invest R $ 1.5 billion in a program to face the coronavirus pandemic, a proposal called “Monitor SUS”.

To guarantee the storage of future vaccines against covid-19, R $ 88.3 million will be spent. For example, there will be a change from refrigerators to cold rooms with a security system that keeps medicines at the correct temperature even after three days. The government says that this replacement will be done in the vaccination rooms of municipalities with more than 100,000 inhabitants.

Part of the money for this initiative has already been invested, Arnaldo Medeiros, secretary of Health Surveillance of the Ministry of Health, told a press conference. The states and municipalities have already received R $ 26 million. The rest of the money, R $ 62.3 million, is in the process of being transferred.

Vehicles gather for information

In response to the decision of the government of Jair Bolsonaro to restrict access to data on the covid-19 pandemic, media Twitter, El Estado de S. Paulo, Folha de S.Paulo, O Globo, G1 and Extra formed a consortium to work collaboratively to seek the necessary information directly from the state health departments of the 27 units of the Federation.

The federal government, through the Ministry of Health, should be the natural source of these figures, but the attitudes of the authorities and the president himself during the pandemic cast doubt on the availability of the data and its veracity.
