The daily report of the World Health Organization published on Sunday indicates that, considering only the last 24 hours, Brazil already surpasses practically all European countries in terms of deaths. Only the United States, the United Kingdom, and Italy had a higher number of deaths than the country in one day.
According to the report, Brazil totaled 428 deaths in the last 24-hour data collection period. The document considers the data updated by the governments and delivered to the entity, which in fact represents a delay of approximately one day in accounting.
In terms of deaths in this 24-hour period, Brazil appeared in the WHO report fourth, with 428 confirmed cases. In the USA There were 5,000 in the US, against 621 in the UK and 474 in Italy.
Barely affected countries such as Spain or France registered a lower number than Brazil, although the rate has changed during the week.
Officially, only 58 cases of deaths were recorded in Russia, 78 in Turkey and 83 in India. In China, no new deaths have been reported.
The WHO data collection was completed at 5:00 a.m., Brazilian time. At that time, there were 91,500 cases in Brazil, with 6,300 deaths.
In the past 24 hours, 8,600 deaths were recorded worldwide. Therefore, around 5% occurred in Brazil. Worldwide, the WHO reports 3.3 million confirmed cases and 238,000 deaths.
The numbers on Brazil coincide with the alerts made by Donald Trump, who went on to cite the country in his press conferences, pointing out the “difficult” situation that the government of Jair Bolsonaro experienced.
At the always diplomatic WHO, the order is to avoid pointing fingers. But the agency said on Friday it was “deeply concerned” about the acceleration of cases in South America and called for further monitoring of the situation.
