Brazil today exceeded 200 thousand deaths caused by covid-19. The survey is the consortium of press vehicles of which Twitter it is part of an additional newsletter published at 5:29 pm on Thursday (7). Never has a disease killed so much in the country in one year.

So far, the country has registered 968 new deaths caused by covid-19 from yesterday to today, bringing the total number of deaths to 200,011 since the start of the pandemic. Between yesterday and today, 47,264 new cases of the disease were also confirmed, with a total of 7,921,803 infected since the start of the pandemic. The consolidated data of the consortium will be published at 8 pm

On August 8, the country surpassed 100,000 deaths from the disease. The first death occurred on March 16, in the city of São Paulo: a 62-year-old man who was hospitalized at the Sancta Maggiore Hospital, of the Red Prevent Senior, and had comorbidities.

Brazil is the second country in total deaths

According to data published by Johns Hopkins University this afternoon, Brazil is the second country in the world in total deaths from covid-19, only behind the United States (with 362,037). In total, it appears in third place, after the US and India (with 21,354,027 and 10,395,278, respectively).

Brazil does not yet have any vaccine approved for emergency use, unlike other countries that have already started vaccination, such as, for example, the United States, Argentina, and nations belonging to the European Union.

Brazil had a rapid escalation of cases and deaths at the start of the pandemic, with a moving average of deaths around 1,000 per day and a record number of deaths in a 24-hour interval established on July 29 (1,554). As of August, the figures began to fall, which caused a relaxation of the restrictive measures adopted by states and municipalities. However, the situation has worsened again in the last two months, mainly during the Christmas season.

CoronaVac: 78% effective, Butantan says it has initiated an emergency order

After twice delaying the announcement of the results of the third phase of CoronaVac tests, the Butantan Institute, linked to the São Paulo government, announced today that the effectiveness of the vaccine is 78%. The government also said that it has already started the request for emergency use of the immunizer to Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) and that it expects the rite of submission (as the request for use is formally called) to be completed between today and tomorrow .

The regulatory agency, however, says in a statement that there has not yet been a request, and that it will have other meetings until the process is complete.

The results of the CoronaVac studies were presented in an interview at the institute’s headquarters with the presence of the Governor of São Paulo, João Doria (PSDB-SP). The percentage of effectiveness is above the 50% required by Anvisa.

“The Butantan Institute vaccine is 78% to 100% effective against covid-19, studies in Brazil point out. This result means that the vaccine has a high degree of efficiency and effectiveness in protecting the life of Brazilians. People vaccinated will have between 78% to 100% less chance of developing covid-19, “said Doria.

Vehicles gather for information

In response to the decision of the government of Jair Bolsonaro to restrict access to data on the covid-19 pandemic, media Twitter, El Estado de S. Paulo, Folha de S.Paulo, O Globo, G1 and Extra formed a consortium to work collaboratively to seek the necessary information directly from the state health departments of the 27 units of the Federation.

The federal government, through the Ministry of Health, should be the natural source of these figures, but the attitudes of the authorities and the president himself during the pandemic cast doubt on the availability of the data and its veracity.
