Brasilia – Brazil registered 844 new deaths in just 24 hours and exceeded the 200,000 mark infected by the new coronavirus, according to data published yesterday by the Ministry of Health. In total, the number of confirmed cases of covid-19 in the country is 202,918, with a record of 13,944 new registrations between Wednesday and Thursday.

The number of deaths from the new coronavirus in the country increased from 13,149 to 13,993, an increase of 844 records in the last 24 hours.

The numbers are growing. In the fourth, Brazil had already overtaken France in the total number of confirmed cases of covid-19 and became the sixth country in the world with the most cumulative cases of the disease, according to a survey by Johns Hopkins University.

The number of deaths is also increasing. Last week, the registry of daily covid-19 death records in the country was transposed three times.

At a press conference at the Planalto Palace in Brasilia, the undersecretary for health surveillance of the portfolio, Eduardo Macário, said that the country is experiencing an alert situation due to the increase in confirmed cases of covid-19 and also of deaths.

“The main message is that we are still in a time of increasing cases. There are no prospects at this time of stabilization or even a decrease,” said Macário. “What we have is perhaps the reduction in the dynamics of infection, when we compare, for example, with the United States, which had very high linear growth.”

The five countries with the most cases of covid-19 are the USA. USA (1.4 million), Russia (252 thousand), the United Kingdom (234 thousand), Spain (229 thousand) and Italy (223 thousand). Brazil is in sixth position, with 202,918 cases.
