The state of Rio de Janeiro has not published its Covid-19 newsletter. The state health department said there was a problem in the database that explains the number of cases and deaths from the disease.
Brazil on Thursday recorded a moving average of 877 deaths from Covid-19, the lowest since May 22, when the calculation showed that 883 people had died on average that week.
The “7-day moving average” averages between the number of deaths for the day and the previous six. It is compared to an average of two weeks ago to indicate whether there is an uptrend, stability or a downtrend. The calculation is a statistical resource to be able to see the trend of the data, drowning out the “noise” caused on weekends, when the notification of deaths is reduced by the shortage of shift employees.
On June 4, Brazil surpassed the moving average of 1,000 deaths from Covid-19 for the first time, with 1,041 deaths. The record calculation was observed on July 25, when an average of 1,097 people died during the week.

However, since August 12, the country has had a moving average of deaths below a thousand.
The Federal District and 13 states have a downward trend in the moving averages of death from Covid-19: Acre, Alagoas, Amazonas, Ceará, Espírito Santo, Maranhão, Paraná, Pernambuco, Piauí, Roraima, Santa Catarina, São Paulo and Sergipe.
There are ten other states with a tendency towards stability: Bahia, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Pará, Paraíba, Rio Grande do Norte, Rio Grande do Sul and Rondônia.
Only three states have an upward trend in moving averages of death: Amapá, Rio de Janeiro and Tocantins.
The information is from the 8 pm bulletin of the press vehicles consortium, formed by O GLOBO, Extra, G1, Folha de S.Paulo, UOL and O Estado de S. Paulo, which collects information from state health departments.

The majority of STF confirms the mandatory use of a mask in public places
Nine of the eleven ministers of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) voted to confirm the validity of the law that requires the use of a mask in all public spaces in the country. The trial takes place in the virtual plenary session, a system in which the ministers cast their votes in writing, without the need for debate. Voting began last Friday and ends at midnight on Friday.
If the majority is confirmed, the precautionary measure granted by Gilmar Mendes will remain in place at the beginning of the month that overthrew President Jair Bolsonaro’s vetoes of specific parts of the law.
