The Brazilian economy created 313,564 formal jobs in September, according to figures from the General Registry of Employees and Unemployed (Caged) published on Thursday (29) by the Ministry of Economy.

Balance is the difference between hiring and firing. In September, the country registered 1,379,509 hires and 1,065,945 layoffs.

Official government figures show that this was the third positive month of formal job creation.

This was also the best result, for September, since the start of the historical series, in 1992, that is, in 29 years. Until then, the best value for this period had been registered in 2008, when 282,841 job openings were opened.

From January to September 2020, 558,597 formal jobs were closed, according to the ministry.

According to the Ministry of Economy, even with the growth of formal jobs in the last three months, there was still no recovery from the losses registered between March and May of this year, when 1,594 million jobs were lost. From July to September, 697,296 positions with a work contract were opened.

The Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, declared that the growing figures for job creation in recent days indicate a recovery in the economy “in V”.

“In the last three months 100 and some, 200 and some and 300 and some were created [mil]. We are not just creating jobs, we are creating them at an ever-increasing rate. We hit bottom in April, we lost jobs for three months in a row, but we are already creating jobs for three months in a row in all sectors and in all regions of Brazil, “he said.

Guedes also pointed out that so far this year, until September, Brazil lost more than 558 thousand jobs, but this figure is lower than the accumulated loss in that same period during the recession years, in 2015 and 2016.

“In the accumulated of the year 2020, which was the worst pandemic in history, the accumulated loss is less than in the two years of falling GDP. 2015 and 2016. In September 2015, we had lost 657 thousand in the year. In 2016 we lost 683 thousand jobs in the year. Well, in 2020, in the worst pandemic in history, we lost 570 thousand jobs, 100 thousand fewer jobs than in 2015 and 2016, ”he said.
