After being confirmed as the winner in the second round of the elections in São Luís, Pode’s candidate, Eduardo Braide, celebrated the result of the polls this Sunday (29). He won the candidate Duarte Jr (Republicans) in the second round of the municipal elections, and will take office for the first time from 2021.
With 100% of the votes counted, Braide received 55.53% of the votes. Duarte, for his part, obtained 44.47% of the valid votes. In a speech to supporters of the committee set up in Retorno do Caolho, in the capital, Braide thanked the votes received.
“If anyone ever doubted that São Luís is the rebel island or that the strength of the people is greater than the strength of the Palace of the Lions, today they have the answer. That choice was never about me, it was always about the people of São Luís I always made sure to say that if it was God’s will, you could beat your chest and say ‘I chose the mayor of São Luís,’ said Braide.
Then, he recalled the confrontation with Flávio Dino, governor of Maranhão, during the campaign of the first and second rounds, in which he says that he was attacked: “I was cowardly attacked by the state governor throughout the campaign. “I was elected by the people of São Luís, who sent a message to Maranhão. They sent a message to Brazil. Nobody puts a halter on the town of São Luís,” he added.
At another point in the speech, Braide said that he will work in partnership with the state and federal government when necessary. “I always said that I would be an independent mayor, that I would talk to everyone. I told the entire campaign that my commitment is with the people of São Luís,” said the elected mayor.

Braide was made official as a candidate for mayor of São Luís, by Pode, at a party convention on September 14. Military and police professor Esmênia Miranda is the candidate for vice mayor on the ballot.
In the latest Ibope poll, published on Friday (27), by TV Mirante, Eduardo Braide appeared with 54% of valid voting intentions. Then Duarte Júnior appeared with 46% of the voting intentions.
Eduardo Braide is 44 years old, he is from São Luís, he is a lawyer and is in his first term as a federal deputy for Maranhão. Previously, he was elected for two terms as a state deputy.
This is the second time that Eduardo Braide is running for mayor of São Luís. In the 2016 elections he ran for the second round, but was defeated by the current mayor of the capital, Edivaldo Holanda Jr.

In his government project, Eduardo Braide affirms that he intends to transform São Luís, if elected, into a humane, participatory, intelligent and sustainable city. Their proposals were scored in 19 areas of work in areas such as health, education, culture and tourism, urban mobility, animal protection, job creation, income and public transport.
Among its proposals is the creation of a Reference Center in Health, the construction of full-time nurseries, the creation of the Economic and Social Development Agency in the capital.
