Santana was arrested in 2016 and released to comply with a “differentiated closed regime” at his home and with an electronic bracelet on his ankle after closing the plea agreement with the STF (Federal Supreme Court).
He affirmed in the interview that he went to the open regime, received authorization to work and that he cannot leave home on weekends.
Asked if he needed judicial authorization to grant the interview to TV Cultura, the publicist stated that it was not necessary because it was something related to work.

The publicist João Santana was accused, along with his wife, Mônica Moura, of participating in a corruption scheme involving illegal contracts from Odebrecht and Petrobras that would have benefited the PT.
The two were sentenced to seven years and six months in prison for various crimes of money laundering. They both had their prayers replaced by 160 days in prison in a closed regime after the signing of an award ceremony, approved by the STF.
