The Botafogo Soccer and regattas arrives, through this message of thanks, to communicate the end of the idol’s professional cycle Sebastião Leonidas, 82, in the Club. Given the current and delicate scenario of the global pandemic, Botafogo opted for this difficult decision, aware of the enormous legacy that remains on and off the field, and with the certainty that Glorioso is his second home and that it will always have its doors open.

Titled defender of the glorious 20th century team, Leônidas came to Botafogo as an athlete in 1966. He played 246 games in the white shirt and earned titles like: o Double Championship From rio (1967/68), Championship Brazilian (1968) and world tournaments (Triangular of Caracas in 1967/68/70) and the Hexagonal of Mexico in 1968

After finishing his professional career as a soccer athlete, he remained at the club as a coach and led the alvinegra main team in the memorable 6-0 victory over Flamengo. As a result, he became a key player in youth training, earning numerous titles as a base coach and, in recent years, acting in the observation of athletes in the selection process.

The Club reiterates its gratitude for the services provided during all these years by “Seu Léo”, as they all affectionately call it in General Severiano.
