“Today when the plane landed, it took off. It was the 2nd time in my life that this happened, once in Rio de Janeiro, and obviously something abnormal is happening, in which case the visibility was not very good. ”

According to the Sinop airport manager, there was smoke at the time of landing and the pilot did not have 100% visibility of the runway.

The flight maneuver occurs when the pilot decides to go back up with the plane when the plane is already in landing operation, towards the ground.

The landing of the delegation, which was also occupied by the Ministers of Defense, Augusto Heleno, of Infrastructure, Tarcísio de Freitas, and the head of the Secretary of Government, Luiz Eduardo Ramos, occurred normally on the second attempt.

This Friday, in a speech to representatives of the agribusiness in the state, Bolsonaro said that there are “some fires in Brazil” and that this has happened over the years.

“We have suffered a lot of criticism. Because, obviously, the more they attack us, the more interest our competitors have, for the best we have, which is our agribusiness, “he said.

In reference to criticism from other countries about the burning in Brazil, Bolsonaro replied.

“Other countries that criticize us do not have a burning problem, because they have already burned everything in their countries.”

This week, eight European countries sent a letter to the Vice President of the Republic, Hamilton Mourão, in which they say that the increase in deforestation makes it difficult for consumers on the continent to buy Brazilian products.

Bolsonaro’s statement in defense of the country’s environmental policies comes just a day after he claims that the country is an example in preserving the environment. This Thursday, at an event in Paraíba, Bolsonaro said that “we must congratulate the country.”

“Brazil is the country that most conserves the environment. And some do not understand which is the country that suffers the most attacks from abroad with respect to their environment. Brazil is to be congratulated for the way it preserves its environment ”, he declared.

The Pantanal has been going through September with more fires since the beginning of the historical series of the National Institute for Space Research (Inpe), in 1998: 5,603 hot spots were detected in just 16 days, compared to 5,498 registered in the entire month of September 2007 – the record of the month until this year.

Compared to 2019, when September had 2,887 outbreaks detected in 30 days, the same month of 2020 already shows an increase of 94%. The number of outbreaks this month is 188% higher than Inpe’s historical average for September, which are 1,944 fire points.

The fire has already destroyed 85% of the Encontro das Águas State Park, a refuge for jaguars. As for the area lost by fires, the institute presents the data monthly: the latest estimate, counted until August 31, pointed to a 12% loss of the biome this year – they were 18.6 km².
