President Jair Bolsonaro (without party) met this Saturday with the president of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Dias Toffoli, the president of the Federal Senate, Davi Alcohol (Dem-AP), and the nominee to replace Celso de Mello on the Supreme Court, Cassio Marques. The meeting, which was not on the authorities’ official agenda, took place at Toffoli’s home in Braslia.
The meeting outraged Bolsonaro supporters. Part of the group has protested on the networks against Kassio’s indication to the STF. On Twitter, the hashtag #BolsonaroTraidor gained momentum after the meeting.
Around 12:40 pm on Sunday, the term ranked third in the list of topics most commented on by Brazilian users of the network. In Minas Gerais, the hastag took the lead.
Influencers linked to the right question the indication of Kssio, which has good traffic with politicians of the Center, a group formed by deputies and senators who monopolize the discussions in Congress. The Center recently reached out to Bolsonaro. For part of Bolsonar’s supporters, Kassio’s profile is not as conservative as expected.
On several occasions, the president has expressed his intention to appoint a “terribly evangelical” minister to the STF. Last Thursday (1), he reiterated his wish, but promised to choose a name of that type in the next opportunity, in 2021. Close to leaving Marco Aurlio Mello, who will turn 75 – maximum age for work – in July of the year coming.

The hastag has been promoted by the Vem pra Rua movement, which supported the former captain in the 2018 elections. This Saturday, Bolsonaro was renamed “PT.”

Kassio’s indication to the STF was published in the Official Directory of the Union (DOU) on Thursday. His official position, however, depends on the approval of the Federal Senate. For this, the Commission of Constitution of Justice (CCJ) and the Plenary of the Chamber must give the official approval to the name.
