President Jair Bolsonaro reported on Tuesday (1st) that the emergency aid will be R $ 300 for another 4 months.
The value of the benefit, created to precede informal workers who lost income due to the new coronavirus pandemic, was announced after the president’s meeting with allied ministers and parliamentarians at the Palácio da Alvorada.
“Now we decided to extend it [o auxílio] by provisional measure until the end of the year. The amount just defined is just over 50% of Bolsa Família. R $ 300 reais ”, said the president.
Bolsonaro said that the amount is less than the current R $ 600, but “complies” with what is expected of the program.
“The amount as we said, R $ 600 is a lot for those who pay, in the case of Brazil. We can say that many times it is not enough value for all needs. But it basically complies,” the president added.
The creation of the aid, in April, provided for three installments of R $ 600, until July.
The aid was extended for the first time by two more installments of R $ 600 and, in recent weeks, the political and economic branches of the government discussed the new value of the benefit.
The Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, affirmed that Bolsonaro ‘did not leave anyone behind’ in emergency aid
Economy Minister Paulo Guedes delivered a short speech shortly after the president’s announcement. He said Bolsonaro “left no one behind” by granting the aid.
“Extend this layer of protection to the Brazilian population. The president left no one behind. And, within the idea of what can be done with the resources we have, extend the amount of R $ 300 in emergency aid for four months, “said the minister.
The R $ 300 aid costs R $ 25 billion to the public coffers per month.
After the end of the emergency aid, Bolsonaro wants to start payments for Renda Brasil, a government social program that has already been discussed, but has not yet been approved. One of the obstacles is finding where the resources will come from to finance the program.
The president also said that the administrative reform will be sent to Congress on Thursday (3).
“Advance the administrative reform on Thursday. Let it be clear, it will not affect any of the current public officials. It will apply only to future officials who are tendered,” Bolsonaro said.
Administrative reform has been under discussion since the beginning of the year and is one of the main measures of the economic team for 2020. With the pandemic, the discussion lost steam and, in the political sphere, there were doubts about whether the text would really be analyzed at the end of this year.
The idea of the reform is to change the rules for the operation of public machinery. The economic team maintains that the measure will cut spending and increase the government’s efficiency.
