Bolsonaro says he doubts that Justice forces immunization

President Jair Bolsonaro (no party) said again, live today, that vaccination against covid-19 will not be mandatory if an immunizer is shown to be effective. The president said that he doubts that justice will make vaccination mandatory and criticized the governors, calling them “apprentices of dictators”, but without giving names.

What served a lot in this pandemic, to reveal, were the apprentices of dictators. Dwarf figures, hypocrites, idiots, stupid, thinking that they rule in their state. Are you going to get a vaccine? It will take you. Vaccine and what you want, right? Coca-Cola, Tubaína … And another, people will not admit that there. I doubt that Justice, whatever the field, will force someone to get vaccinated one day. The Brazilian has freedom and period

The president’s statement comes amid the exchange of quills with the governor of São Paulo, João Doria (PSDB), on vaccination against covid-19.

Bolsonaro cited an alleged articulation made by governors to file a lawsuit with the Federal Supreme Court (STF) seeking mandatory immunization in the country.

“There is a governor, I will not say his name, everyone knows who he is, who is looking for a majority in the states, he has already managed about eight governors. They want to sue the Federal Supreme Court so that each state determines if the vaccine will be mandatory or not. In São Paulo, we have no doubts that it will be mandatory, especially because the governor said it would be mandatory, “added the president.

Yesterday, the Democratic Labor Party (PDT) called the Supreme Court to guarantee the autonomy of states and municipalities to determine mandatory immunization.

Bolsonaro has stated several times that even if a vaccine against the new coronavirus is available, immunization will not be mandatory in Brazil. However, the president contradicts himself: in February he signed a decree authorizing compulsory vaccination. Doria said that in the state of São Paulo, immunization will be mandatory as soon as Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) releases the vaccine.

The two also have a public dispute over CoronaVac, a vaccine developed by the Institute. Butatan in partnership with the Chinese laboratory Sinovac, being called by Bolsonaro “Chinese vaccine”.

Yesterday morning, the President of the Republic rejected the purchase of 46 million doses of CoronaVac, announced the day before by the Minister of Health, Eduardo Pazuello, with the governor of São Paulo.

The president said he will not buy doses of an immunizer that has not been clinically effective tried.

‘Anvisa will not approve the vaccine in 72 hours’

After the director general of the Butantan Institute declared to Folha de S. Paulo that Anvisa is “delaying the authorization” to import the raw material necessary for the vaccine, Bolsonaro said that he heard from the executive director of the agency, Antônio Barra Torres, that “won’t work” to pass the immunizer.

Health comes first, then Anvisa will give the certification. Now him [Barra Torres] will not run. It will not be in 72 hours, he told me, that he will authorize the distribution in Brazil. After all, the responsibility is enormous.

This morning, Bolsonaro and Pazuello appeared together, live, to deny any kind of crisis between the two.

“It’s that simple, one boss and the other obey. But we have affection,” Pazuello said on the morning show.

Brazil signed Oxford vaccine purchase without authorization from Anvisa

Although he highlighted that the premise for the purchase of a vaccine stands out for its safety and effectiveness, approved by Anvisa, in August, the federal government signed a Provisional Measure (MP) that frees R $ 1.9 billion for production, purchase and distribution of 100 million doses of the vaccine developed by the University of Oxford in collaboration with the Astrazeneca laboratory. In Brazil, research on this immunizer is led by Fiocruz.

The Sinovac and Astrazeneca vaccines are in the same phase 3, a stage in which massive tests are carried out on the immunizer. None of them have proven efficacy or authorization for use by Anvisa.

Bolsonaro also contradicts the current government’s efforts to publicize, encourage and produce chloroquine, a drug whose effectiveness has never been proven against the coronavirus. As of July, the Brazilian army had produced 3 million pills of the drug. Production costs, of more than R $ 1.5 million, are investigated by the Public Ministry and the TCU.
