President Jair Bolsonaro said on Thursday, without giving details, that Brazil could also buy Moderna’s vaccine against covid-19.

In his weekly live, the president once again said that the government will make vaccines available to the part of the population interested in being immunized against the coronavirus, and repeated, once again, that he will not be vaccinated against covid-19, justifying himself by the fact that it has already been contaminated, although cases of reinfection have been reported in the country.

Moderna had her vaccine cleared for emergency use by the United States on the 19th.

At the moment, Brazil is negotiating with Pfizer, which has a vaccine developed with Biontech, to acquire its immunizer against Covid-19.

“So, in addition to Pfizer, we have another one that is already available, Moderna, which could be acquired by Brazil,” Bolsonaro said.

“It seems that now the companies are going to present documentation to Anvisa, to Anvisa so that, if it certifies, we can do the paperwork immediately and be able to buy these vaccines,” he added. “Even because part of the population is crying out for them, so whoever wants the vaccine, we will do it well, on our part, free and not mandatory.

The federal government already has an agreement with AstraZeneca, which developed a Covid-19 vaccine in partnership with the University of Oxford.

On Thursday, the president of Fiocruz, Nísia Trindade, partner of AstraZeneca in Brazil, told Reuters that she intends to request the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) the emergency use of this vaccine. The AstraZeneca-Oxford immunizer had an emergency use authorized by the UK on Wednesday.

In addition to these, Brazil also has CoronaVac, a vaccine developed by the Chinese company Sinovac, which will be produced in Brazil by the Butantan Institute, linked to the government of the State of São Paulo.

Live, the president again criticized governors and mayors who paralyzed economic activities as a way to contain the spread of Covid-19. He also harshly criticized the use of masks as a means of prevention.

The Health Ministry reported that Brazil registered 1,074 new deaths from coronavirus on Thursday, bringing the total to 194,949, the second highest number of deaths in the world, only behind the United States. According to the ministry, 7,675,973 people have already been infected in the country, the third largest number in the world.
