BRASÍLIA – A week after Mayor Marcelo Crivella (Republicans) made the false accusation that his opponent in the second round, former Mayor Eduardo Paes (DEM), had made a deal to hand over the Municipal Secretary of Education to PSOL, which that would lead to “pedophilia in schools”, President Jair Bolsonaro repeated part of the accusation in a live broadcast over the Internet on Thursday night. After reiterating his support for Crivella, for the first time in the second round, he cited the example of Rio de Janeiro, without mentioning Paes’s name:

– For example, suppose Rio de Janeiro: the mayoral candidate promised PSOL the Secretary of Education. Wow, if this guy wins, don’t complain about the trash your kid will have when he gets to class.
Both Paes and PSOL already announced last week that they would sue Crivella for the statements made in a video recorded with Congressman Otoni de Paula (PSC-RJ), last Thursday of last week. The DEM candidate said he would sue the court for “this very serious and deceptive accusation.”

Live with Otoni, Crivella claimed to have heard, without presenting information to support the statement, that the PSOL “will take over the Ministry of Education” in an eventual administration of Paes. In a video released in response to the mayor, Freixo denied that PSOL would join a possible Paes government and said that the party and its seven elected councilors “will oppose him, a responsible opposition.” Rio’s PSOL, in a resolution published last week, preached a “no vote” in Crivella.

– PSOL is with Eduardo Paes. They say that the Department of Education will take over. Can you imagine pedophilia in schools? Along with the mayor of Rio, Otoni reinforced Crivella’s false accusations saying that “it is a risk we run if Eduardo is elected.” Otoni is investigated in the investigation of fake news of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), and has already been denounced by the Attorney General’s Office for crimes of defamation, injuries and coercion for cursing the STF minister, Alexandre de Moraes, rapporteur of the investigation.

“In the first place, there is no political agreement, there is no exchange of positions with Psol, neither on my part nor on their part, and this attitude reflects their despair at the growing prospect of defeat at the polls, but I did not imagine that I I could go so far in baseness and lies. He will be prosecuted electorally, civilly and criminally for this very serious and deceitful accusation, ”Paes responded in a note.
Bolsonaro’s speech came after almost an hour and twenty minutes of live, in which he spoke little of politics. The president said that on Sunday he will go to Rio to vote and that “the people already know” who they will vote for.

There was material from Crivella’s campaign on the table during the live show, but Bolsonaro did not show it.
He also wished the voters who are going to vote in the second round good luck and “a good decision” and asked them to take into account the party to which the candidate belongs. He also argued that his supporters should not vote for left-wing acronyms, citing PT, PCdoB, PSOL and PDT.

Referring to the election in São Paulo, he recalled that his candidate, Celso Russomanno (Republicans), lost and did not pass to the second round, and was exempted from supporting someone for next Sunday. He made brief comments on the two candidates, Bruno Covas (PSDB) and Guilherme Boulos (PSOL):

– Now you can decide between Covas and Boulos. Covas declared that he did not vote for me in the second round, in 2018, so he voted for the PT, he voted for Haddad. And the other guy, from PSOL, is known. I’m not going to tip, I’m not going to get into politics here. So, I’m out of this – he declared.
The president also spoke about the Covid-19 pandemic and commented that there are some mayors in the country talking about “new confinement, confinement.” He stressed that “now it is too late” for those who are in cities where mayors who have defended the measure have already been re-elected.
