The meeting took place at the home of Minister Dias Toffoli in Brasilia, where the participants also witnessed the victory of Palmeiras over Ceará, for the 13th round of the Brasileirão. The guests left the venue around 10:30 p.m.

The compromise was not foreseen in the agendas of the Presidents of the Republic and the Senate; and that of the STF minister this Saturday.

The meeting at Toffoli’s home came two days after Bolsonaro announced the appointment of Kassio Nunes Marques to the Supreme Court, in the chair that will become vacant with the retirement of Minister Celso de Mello.

The dean, the oldest Supreme Minister, would be required to retire in November when he turns 75. However, Celso de Mello anticipated his departure and will leave the STF on October 13.

The appointment of the judge of the Federal Regional Court of the 1st Region Kassio Nunes Marques took place last Thursday (1st).

Before assuming office in the STF, Kássio Marques must be heard by the Senate Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ) and have his name approved by the collegiate and plenary session of the Legislative Chamber. Voting is secret.

The president of the CCJ, Simone Tebet (MDB-MS), has already reported that the commission will only analyze the nominee after the departure of Celso de Mello from the Court. Meanwhile, Kassio Marques has been making contacts with the president of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre, and is looking for other MPs in search of support for his nomination.
