Bolsonaro government rejected 70 million doses of Pfizer, says newspaper

The government of Jair bolsonaro (without party) rejected in 2020 a proposal from the pharmaceutical company Pfizer which predicted 70 million doses of vaccines against a COVID-19 until June of this year. Of these, 3 million were expected for February. The information is from Folha.

According to the newspaper, Pfizer made its first offer on August 14, 2020, and the proposal called for the delivery of 500,000 doses starting in December 2020, and the rest of the 70 million doses by June 2021.

Also according to the newspaper, days later the pharmaceutical company increased the offer for 2020, increasing the number of doses until December to 1.5 million, with another 1.5 million until February and the rest in the following months. That is, until February Brazil could have received at least 3 million doses of the immunizer Pfizer.

On November 11, the pharmaceutical company made a new proposal, but without a response from the Brazilian government, other countries ended up being prioritized, and the first doses for Brazil would be for January and February, in an amount of 2 million doses, according to the report.

The Ministry of Health announced just this week that it intends to buy doses of the Pfizer vaccine, seven months after the first offer, however, so far, there is no signed contract and deliveries would begin only in May, with 2 million dose.
