President Jair Bolsonaro and Economy Minister Paulo Guedes confirmed the extension of the emergency help until the end of the year, for an additional total R $ 1,200. The payment will be made in four installments, to be paid in December, in the amount of R $ 300 each.
The proposal was made official through a provisional measure, which is why it entered into force immediately after its publication. However, the text has yet to be approved in Congress, since the initial amount of R $ 600, guaranteed by law, was changed.
The new value was the cause of disagreements in the government. The economic team suggested increasing the benefit to R $ 200 in the expansion. On the other hand, the politicians argued that the aid should remain at R $ 600, which was discarded due to the cost of the program for public coffers, which reaches R $ 50 billion per month.
With the amount set at R $ 300, it was possible to reach a “middle ground” as the president wanted, respecting fiscal responsibility. According to Bolsonaro, the amount is enough to cover the basic needs of a family.
Part of the beneficiaries will receive three installments or less
Even with the extension of emergency aid until the end of the year, not all beneficiaries will receive the four installments of R $ 300. This is because the program represents an extra expense for the Union that was only approved by the state of calamity public decreed by the pandemic.
Since the state of calamity comes to an end on December 31, 2020, it is not possible to keep payments next year. In this way, whoever approved the benefit late will not receive all the fees.
As established by the MP, only those who began receiving the benefit in April will be entitled to four additional payments. The number of installments of the extension will depend on the month of payment of the first installment. See how it looks:
- Whoever received the first installment in April will receive the four installments of R $ 300;
- Whoever received the first installment in May will receive three installments;
- Whoever received the first installment in June will receive two additional installments;
- Whoever received the first installment in July will receive only one installment.
Thus, thousands of citizens will be harmed and will receive less. This is the case of beneficiaries whose aid was delayed due to flaws in the government’s analysis, who enrolled after the program payments had started and who challenged or filed a lawsuit to receive the benefit.
