On Monday (4), President Jair Bolsonaro named delegate Rolando Alexandre de Souza as the new director general of the Federal Police. The appointment was published in an additional edition of the “Diário Oficial da União”.
Rolando’s appointment was made official five days after Minister Alexandre de Moraes of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) suspended Bolsonaro’s decision to appoint the director general of the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (Abin), also delegate Alexandre Ramagem, to send the PF.
Rolando Alexandre de Souza is a delegate of the Federal Police. He was Superintendent of the FP in Alagoas between 2018 and 2019. In September 2019, at the invitation of Alexandre Ramagem, he assumed the position of Secretary of Planning and Management at Abin.
In the PF, Rolando was also head of the Service for the Suppression of the Misappropriation of Public Resources and held leadership positions in the Division of Combating Financial Crimes and in the Superintendency of Rondônia.

The suspension of Ramage’s nomination to the Federal Police contradicted Bolsonaro, who last week said that the decision of Minister Alexandre de Moraes was “political”.
Bolsonaro also went so far as to declare that he would appeal, that is, he would try to reverse Moraes’ decision, which ended without happening.
Ramage is a friend of the president’s children and was responsible for Bolsonaro’s security from the campaign until his inauguration, when he took over as director general of Abin.
He was chosen by Bolsonaro to replace Mauricio Valeixo, a trusted name of former minister Sérgio Moro.
Moro announced his departure from government after Bolsonaro formalized Valeixo’s resignation. According to the former minister, the measure was an attempt by Bolsonaro to try to interfere politically in the FP, which the president denies.
The Federal Police is linked to the Ministry of Justice and Public Security within the Bolsonaro government structure.
In the decision to suspend the appointment of Ramage, Moraes said that he took into account Moro’s accusations against Bolsonaro and that the president himself admitted the intention to have someone in charge of the PF to consult at any time to obtain information on the demands. .
According to the STF minister, there was evidence of a misuse of functionality in Bolsonaro’s decision to appoint Ramage as director general of the Federal Police.
