In a publication on his Facebook page, President Jair Bolsonaro proposed a measure that, according to him, will be published in the Official Directory of the Union this Tuesday (27): a further reduction of the tax burden on video game consoles. The decision fulfills a promise made by the president earlier in the month, during one of their lives.

The reduction in the IPI (Tax on Industrialized Products) rates on video games reaches three ranges: from 40% to 30% for game consoles and machines; 32% to 22% for spare parts and accessories and 16% to 6% for devices with built-in screen, portable or not, and their parts. Commenting on the matter on the 9th, Bolsonaro commented that the “kids” began to “sizzle” with the prices of electronic games.

Later, the president announced that he would speak with Paulo Guedes, the economy minister, about a proposal to reduce taxes on electronic games. This move is very similar to what the president made last year. At that time, the tax was reduced from 50% to 40%.

It should be remembered that a Constitutional Amendment Proposal (PEC) is currently being processed in the Senate, which aims to reduce the taxes applied to consoles and games in Brazil to zero. Despite this, the PEC has not been active since August last year, when the approval of the Constitution, Justice and Citizenship Commission passed.
