The testimony of federal deputy Alexandre Frota (PSDB-SP) in the investigation that investigates the organization and financing of anti-democratic acts, carried out last week, provided investigators with information on the background of the electoral campaign and the first year of the president’s government Jair Bolsonaro (no party).
Although the investigation focuses on recent demonstrations against democratic authorities and institutions, the parliamentary report, now broken with the Plateau, tells details of the times when there was free transit between allies and supporters of Bolsonar.
The version gives an account of the ‘frying’ of the former minister of the Government Secretariat, General Carlos Alberto dos Santos Cruz, attributed to the resistance of the military to the hiring of bloggers in the Ministry of Communication, and to the role of businessman Otávio Oscar Fakhoury as coordinator and financier of meetings to define dissemination strategies in the presidential campaign and to debate the first 100 days of the Bolsonaro government.

When asked how he found out about the meetings, Frota said that members of the group posted photos of these meetings in a hotel.

Linked to the wing influenced by the ‘guru’ Olavo de Carvalho, Fakhoury manages groups of Bolshevik brigades on WhatsApp, finances pages of support for the government and demonstrations in favor of the president. Recently, he announced that he intends to create a right-wing conservative communication network in the country, entitled to a radio and television station. According to him, the project was discussed with the Secretary of Communication, Fábio Wajngarten, due to the experience of the secretary and, if necessary, will seek financing from the banking system, including the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES).
Since April, the businessman has been investigated in a secret investigation into the organization and financing of acts against democracy, ongoing in the Federal Supreme Court. During the investigations, he was the subject of searches determined by Minister Alexandre de Moraes in Operation Lume. On the occasion, lawyers João Vinícius Manssur and William Iliadis Janssen, who represent Fakhoury, published a note in which they reinforce that he denies any wrongdoing. Fakhoury has publicly admitted to having financed the pro-Bolsonaro and pro-impeachment protests of Dilma Rousseff, but rejects his involvement in fake news or anti-democratic acts.
Last week, Fakhoury issued an open letter to President Jair Bolsonaro criticizing the appointment of Judge Kássio Nunes Marques to the vacancy on the Supreme Court (STF) with the early retirement of Minister Celso de Mello. In the text, he denies having approached the government to ask for favors or positions.
“I never needed favors from the government and, if I had them, I would not ask for them. I never had and never had the intention of occupying government positions. My requests were never personal, but to which every citizen is entitled,” the letter says. “I asked the government to work for the citizen and his freedom; to protect the individual and families from the tyranny of the state bureaucracy by strictly defending the principles of the law and the fundamental guarantees contained in the Federal Constitution.
