The current payment method of the program Family scholarship, the citizen card, can be exchanged for the digital social savings that Caixa Econômica Federal opens. Currently, the payment method is used for emergency aid deposits, and the federal government intends to extend its use also to Bolsa Família beneficiaries.

According to an article published in R7, on condition of anonymity, two sources with direct knowledge of the matter confirmed the change. According to an internal document from the Citizenship Council, the transfer from the card to the account will mean the extension until April of next year of a contract signed in the past with Caixa at a cost of R $ 210.9 million.

This amount corresponds to a reduction of more than 10% in relation to the amount that would be paid without digital social savings. This is due to the fact that the state bank proposed to charge R $ 1.89 for each credit in digital savings, compared to the amount of R $ 2.1569 that is charged today for the payment of aid on the citizen card.

How should it work and what are the changes?

Digital social savings must offer Bolsa Família beneficiaries the functionalities of the Caixa citizen card, such as withdrawals at bank branches, lotteries or ATMs. In addition to these services, you must also release transfers and invoice payments through the Caixa Tem application, in a free account.

One of the sources stated that “many received Bolsa Família, but did not have a bank account. Now they have one more option. Free. And whoever uses digital banking will be a lower expense for Caixa and the government ”.

The measure should strengthen the banking movement in Brazil and consolidate Caixa’s digital operations. Approximately 35 million Brazilians will begin to have banking services for the first time this year, after having requested to receive emergency aid.
