The president-elect of the United States, Joe Biden, announced this Sunday (29) that the White House communications team will be made up exclusively of women, something unprecedented in the history of the country.

Among the nominees is Jen Psaki, who will serve as the White House press secretary, a high-profile position.

Psaki, 41, has held various high-level positions, including Director of Communications for the White House during the administration of President Barack Obama, whose future president was vice.

Biden and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris are trying to foster diversity in the nominations that have been announced so far to join the Executive Summit, which takes over on January 20.

“I am proud to announce today the first high-level communications team in the White House, made up entirely of women,” the president-elect said in a statement.

“These skilled and experienced communicators bring different perspectives to their work and a shared commitment to rebuilding this country,” he added.

In addition to Psaki, six more nominations have been announced.

Kate Bedingfield, who was Biden’s deputy campaign manager to take over as White House communications director.

She was Biden’s communications director when he was vice.

Ashley Etienne will direct communications for Harris, for whom Symone Sanders will be the main spokesperson.

Pili Tobar has been named deputy director of communications for the White House and Karine Jean Pierre will be deputy director of press.

Elizabeth Alexander, in turn, will be in charge of communications for the future first lady, Jill Biden.

These appointments do not need confirmation in the Senate, unlike most cabinet positions.
