The coronavirus pandemic could give the Corinthians a few more months with midfielder Pedrinho, who negotiated with Benfica and was due to appear in May. In an interview on the Portuguese club’s website this Saturday, soccer director Tiago Pinto said there will be no rush to receive the player in Lisbon.

“We believe a lot in Pedrinho, we really want him to be with us, but in the 2020/2021 season. The 2019/2020 season will conclude with the athletes who are already part of the team and who will help us win two titles,” said the manager. “If the seasons collide, we have to benefit the previous club. In addition to the legal problems, there is an ethical problem.”

Pedrinho was sold for R $ 105 million.

Pedrinho’s future will depend on the evolution of covid-19. An analysis of the Portuguese and Brazilian soccer calendars will be taken to know what competitions each team will play after the stoppage.

Corinthians negotiated Pedrinho with Benfica for 20 million euros (R $ 93 million at the time of the agreement). With 70% of the player’s federative rights, the Parque São Jorge team has yet to receive any sale-related fees.
