The feeling in Belo Horizonte of never having felt as hot as what it is doing this Saturday (3) portrays a reality. The capital of Minas Gerais has broken a historical record, registering the hottest day in the history of the city since measurements began in 1910. The thermometer reached 37.8ºC, and the climate was worthy of desert with the relative humidity of the air at 12% – less than 20% is considered alert. The information is from the National Meteorological Institute (Inmet).

The highest temperature in the mining capital until then had been in October 2015, when the thermometers reached 37.4ºC. For this Saturday the record was already expected: with the expectation that the thermometers would reach 38ºC.

Without truce

And during the week, more heat in the capital. For Sunday (4), the temperature is expected to be around 33ºC, and the thermometers should continue to rise in the following days to reach 37ºC again. In addition to the rising thermometers, the weather will remain dry, with the relative humidity below 20%.

“I always go out with them. Whenever I can, I pour water on them,” says Alvarenga, who stopped at Praça da Liberdade to refresh the pets.

The architect Giovanna Fainblat has already turned to the club. “As soon as it reopened, I went back to attend. I went until the middle of the week and it was full,” says Giovanna, who also took a break from the Praça da Liberdade walk so that her dog could drink water.

The refreshment should only arrive in mid-October, starting on the 11th, when there will be changes in the circulation of the winds over South America, causing the arrival of cold fronts to the interior of Brazil, bringing rains to Minas.
