The polar air mass acting on Minas Gerais begins to lose strength, and the trend is for the next few days to dawn with milder temperatures in the capital of Minas Gerais
Celebrated this Sunday (10), Mother’s Day dawned with thermometers that mark the lowest temperature ever recorded in Belo Horizonte since the year began, this is the coldest day of the year. The meteorological station installed in Cercadinho, in the south-central region of the city, confirmed the sensation of intense cold that happened to many residents of the capital this morning: the team established a minimum of 10.5ºC. The thermal sensation, given the speed and intensity of the winds, further subsided: residents in the highest regions of the city felt a cold equivalent to – 1ºC – enough temperature, in fact, to start freezing the water.
At six in the morning, the temperature was highest in the Pampulha region, where thermometers recorded a minimum temperature of 12.5ºC. With the wind speed, the thermal sensation there was around 7ºC. In the vicinity of Avenida do Contorno, the recorded minimum was also 12.5ºC, and the thermal sensation corresponds precisely to the temperature on the thermometer. One of the contributing factors is that there are many buildings in the region, capable of reducing the speed and intensity of the winds.
After confirming that this Sunday was the coldest day of the year in the capital of Minas Gerais – remember that, before, it belonged to Saturday (9) when the thermometers showed 10.6ºC -, the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) clarified that the The polar air mass that has been operating over Minas Gerais since the middle of the week has begun to lose strength and the next few days are expected to be warmer.
“With the weakening of the polar air mass, temperatures will gradually start to rise. With the slight elevation, there is a reduction in the sensation of cold. Of course, the next few days will not be hot, cold nights and slightly sunny days are characteristic of the season, ”says meteorologist Cléber Souza do Inmet. As of Tuesday (12), thermometers begin to show higher temperatures in the morning, around 15ºC.
Lower temperatures in Minas Gerais
Unlike Belo Horizonte, there was no record of minimum temperature this Sunday (10) in Minas Gerais. The lowest recorded this morning occurred in the city of Caldas, in the south of Minas, where thermometers showed 3.4ºC. The coldest day of the year in the state took place this Saturday (9) in Montes Verde, also in the southern region, in that city, known as a tourist spot, the temperature recorded on thermometers was 2.3ºC. Still on Monday (11) frost is expected in the municipalities near the Serra da Mantiqueira. The temperature in these regions remains between 2ºC and 4ºC.
On this Mother’s Day, the minimum temperature in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte was not in the capital, despite the record, but in the municipality of Florestal, where thermometers read 7.7ºC. According to Inmet, the cold could also be felt in Sete Lagoas, which had a minimum of 8.8ºC, and in Ibirité, where the temperature at 6 am was 10.9ºC.
